Jefferson’s courthouse square has new things to see this summer, rain and/or shine.
Three new historical plaques have been installed on pillars. A plaque highlighting Beta Tau Delta’s contribution to the community over the past 100 years is on the north side of the courthouse. Circus legend Yankee Robinson is highlighted at the corner of Lincoln Way and Chestnut St, and Milligan Brothers is noted at the corner of Lincoln Way and Wilson.
Visitors with a smartphone can scan a QR code on each plaque for even more information about the topic.
Jefferson Matters: Main Street is spearheading the effort to have plaques installed on all the pillars.
There’s also something to see on a rainy day. Jefferson Matters’ Tower View Team used a special product last month to stencil art on the sidewalks on the business side of the square. The art is visible only when the sidewalk is wet.
As a TVT member said, “When it rains, it pours art.”
